From a short email to intelligent form processing – the story of formalogix.
It actually started with a short email. The Solothurn Building Insurance from Switzerland asked us essentially: "Do you have an idea how we can automatically extract data from our handwritten forms?"
It was about 103,000 forms that had been filled out over the years and archived as PDFs. Now the data was needed, so the desire arose: The data should be transferred cleanly, structured, and reliably into a database.
We looked at it – and honestly:
Manual data entry was really not an option.
But the question of automation wouldn't leave us alone.
Between Christmas and New Year 2022, we sat together with cookies and mulled wine, still with that one question in our heads.
Immediately thought in terms of data logic, models, and scaling – asking himself how to build a system that's not only robust today, but tomorrow as well.
Looked at the forms themselves – text fields, checkboxes, handwriting, signatures – and considered how to handle the data intuitively and meaningfully.
We asked ourselves:
So we started coding. First playfully. Then more and more seriously. And suddenly there was a first prototype that could actually read data. Not perfect – but surprisingly good.
And this became the basis for our first real project with SGV – the moment when an idea became a working solution.
We processed them, extracted fields, structured data, handled special cases. Handwriting. Checkboxes. Repeated fields. Everything that's usually called "not reliably automatable."
And yet it remained a side project for a long time, which we eventually named formalogix. Not yet as a product, but more as a working title. It was a project we continued building in the evenings, on weekends, out of curiosity, because it solved a real problem, was fun, and we wanted to know what else was possible.
We continued to develop it – initially for the Technikbegeistert association to digitize GDPR forms for competitions. And with each use and the insights gained, the system kept getting better:
From the first idea to active operations – a path full of learning, growth, and real projects.
Born between cookies & mulled wine – a playful idea that quickly became serious.
103,000 forms processed – proof that the technology works in real applications. Learn more →
Partnership for GDPR forms at competitions – the system became more robust. Learn more →
Funding secured – the side project became a serious company with partners.
Today we process forms daily for companies – with the same curiosity as on day one.
In 2025, we presented our idea to Konrad Schneidenbach from FH Münster. He immediately recognized the potential of our idea and suggested a funding program. Together we then sought partners in business and science and received approval for the InnoLoop project.
Since then, we have been working together in a strong alliance of innovation, business, and science.
But the core has remained the same.
formalogix was born because someone honestly asked: "Do you have an idea?"
And we answered: "Let's just try it out."
We work from Germany and Switzerland – with deep understanding of local requirements and GDPR-compliant data protection.
Our technology is proven in reality – with over 1 million pages processed in real projects.
Honest, transparent solutions for real problems – without exaggerated promises, but with realistic expectations.
We believe in not delegating responsibility to software. That's why we combine AI with human expertise.
Let's find out together how we can help you.
